World Hindi Day 2023

World Hindi Day, i.e.Vishwa Hindi Diwas, is an annual celebration that takes place on January 10th every year. The rationale for celebrating this day is to establish the significance of Hindi as a language and to promote it.  

Difference between World Hindi Day and National Hindi Diwas
It is pertinent to distinguish between World Hindi Day and National Hindi Day. While World Hindi Day is observed on January 10th, National Hindi Day is celebrated on 14th September.

The National Hindi Diwas commemorates the adoption of Hindi as one of the official languages by the Constituent Assembly of India in 1949.

History
The first-ever World Hindi Conference took place in 1975 in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on January 10. The conference saw participation of 100 delegates from 30 countries.

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh declared in 2006 that January 10 will be celebrated as World Hindi Day every year. This was also the first time that the ministry of external affairs started observing the day abroad.

Why is World Hindi Day Celebrated?
World Hindi Day is celebrated every year to recognize Hindi as a universal language and to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world.  

12th World Hindi Conference 
12th World Hindi Conference is to be held in Fiji from 15-17 February 2023. World Hindi Conference  consists of Hindi scholars, writers and laureates from different parts of the world who contribute to the language

Third -most spoken language in the world 
With almost 600 million speakers worldwide, Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and English.
