Vigilance Awareness Week 2021


Vigilance Awareness Week 2021: The Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) 2021 has been organized by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) from 26 October to 01 November 2021.

Key Points:

  • VAW is an annual event which is observed across India during the week in which the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel falls,i.e., from 26 October to 01 November 2021.
  • This week is observed to promote integrity, transparency and accountability amongst public servants and create awareness about the existence, causes and gravity of corruption and the threat posed by it to society as a whole. 

Theme of VAW 2021:

  • The theme of Vigilance Awareness Week 2021: ‘Independent India @75: Self Reliance with Integrity‘.
  • The theme focuses on the two ideals i.e., are self-reliance and integrity which are important to achieve all around progress and development in India.

About CVC:

  • Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is an apex Indian governmental body to address governmental corruption.
  • The CVC Bill was passed by both the houses of Parliament in 2003 and the President gave its assent on September 11, 2003.
  • Thus, the Central Vigilance Commission Act 2003 (No45 0f 2003) came into effect from that date.
  • It has the status of an autonomous body, free of control from any executive authority, charged with monitoring all vigilance activity under the Central Government of India.
  • It advises various authorities in central Government organizations in planning, executing, reviewing and reforming their vigilance work.

Background:

  • CVC was set up by the Government on 11 February, 1964 on the recommendations of the Committee on Prevention of Corruption, headed by Shri K. Santhanam, to advise and guide Central Government agencies in the field of vigilance.
