Second Tourism Working Group meeting concludes in Siliguri

Under the framework of G20, Ministry of Tourism organised its 2nd Tourism Working Group meeting from 1st to 3rd April in Siliguri in West Bengal. The last meeting will be held in Goa.

The meeting included two side events, an inaugural session, working group meetings ,a series of bilateral meetings, visit to Batasia loop, Governor’s house Darjeeling and a joyous ride on Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) from Ghum station to Darjeeling station.

The working group  discussed and endorsed  the five priorities introduced by India. The five priorities are Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management.

The Ministry of Tourism has also formulated a Draft National Tourism Policy. The new Policy is a holistic framework for sustainable and responsible growth of the tourism sector in the country and aims at improving framework conditions for tourism development in the country, supporting tourism industries, and strengthening tourism to highlight India’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

In G20, there are 5 inter related priority areas for tourism. 

• Greening of tourism sector

• Harnessing the power of digitization

• Empowering youth with skills

• Nurturing tourism MSMEs/ startups

• Rethinking the strategic management of destinations

The railway loop of Batasia Loop is a popular attraction of Darjeeling. It is an amazing feat of engineering. The place offers a spectacular view of Darjeeling town with the Kanchenjunga and other snowy mountains in the back-drop.
