Oscars 2023: RRR's Naatu Naatu wins best original song

The peppy track Naatu Naatu from the hit Telugu-language film RRR has created history by becoming the first Indian film song to win an Oscar. RRR stands for Rise, Roar, Revolt,

The 95th Academy Awards have taken place in Los Angeles, with RRR winning Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. Naatu Naatu beat pop heavyweights Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

A second Oscar also went to India when The Elephant Whisperers won in the Best Documentary Short film category.

RRR’s catchy musical number Naatu Naatu has got people around the world grooving to its beats.

In the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards held in January the song had won a Golden Globe for the best original song - a first for India. The same month, it also went on to win the Critics' Choice award for the best song.

Written and directed by SS Rajamouli, RRR tells the rollicking story of two revolutionaries Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju who fight against British rule in India.  The lead roles are played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR. RRR also stars Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. 

The song was shot in front of the Mariinskyi Palace, the official ceremonial residence of the President of Ukraine.
