Most of the requirement of coal in the country is met through indigenous production / supply. The focus of the Government is on increasing the domestic production of coal and to eliminate non-essential import of coal in the country.

Increase in domestic production of coal will eliminate non-essential import of coal and can reduce dependence on imported coal in the country.

The Ministry of Coal has achieved a remarkable feat with a substantial surge in overall coal production during the month of May’23, reaching 76.26 Million Tons (MT), surpassing the figures of the month May’22 of 71.21 MT, representing an increase of 7.10%.
