NASA and ISRO's joint satellite mission in 2024

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch a new space mission in collaboration with the US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The mission called NISAR set to be launched in the first couple of months in 2024.

NISAR Space Mission

  • NISAR is a joint venture between space agencies NASA and ISRO.
  • NISAR stands for NASA ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar.
  • When it will be launched, NISAR will be the first radar imaging satellite to use dual frequencies.
  • NISAR is likely to be launched in January 2024

It will use its advanced radar imaging technology to map the elevation and movement of Earth's land masses and ice sheets four to six times a month, at a resolution of 5-10 metres.

NISAR is targeted for launch onboard India’s GSLV. Data from NISAR will be highly suitable for studying the land ecosystems, deformation of solid earth, mountain & polar cryosphere, sea ice and coastal oceans in regional to global scale.
