Lynx-U2 Fire Control System

Lynx-U2 Fire Control System

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bangalore, for the procurement of 13 indigenously developed Lynx-U2 fire control systems for the Indian Navy at a total cost of over Rs 1,700 crore.

Lynx-U2 fire control systems have the ability to accurately track and engage targets amidst sea clutter as well as air/surface targets.

The purchase was made under the Buy Indian - IDMM (Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) category.

The 4th generation Lynx-U2 fire control systems will be installed on new generation offshore patrol vessels to be built indigenously at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Goa Shipyard Limited.

The Lynx-U2 fire control systems can monitor air/surface targets precisely, generate target data for determining weapon aiming locations, and engage targets.

The system has been in operation for over two decades and has been meeting the tactical needs of Indian Naval ships of different types such as destroyers, frigates, missile boats, corvettes, and so on.

The Gun Fire Control System (GFCS) is built on an open and scalable framework that allows for simple and flexible application in a variety of configurations

Target combat is carried out using medium/short range gun mounts such as the Russian AK176, A190, and AK630, alongside the SRGM (Super Rapid Gun Mount) accessible aboard ships.

This move will generate an employment of two lakh man-days over a period of four years and encourage active participation of various Indian industries, including MSMEs, thus significantly contributing to the Government’s efforts to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence.
