Kidambi Srikanth has won the historic silver medal in the World Badminton Championships after he lost the men's singles summit clash to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew in straight games in Huelva in Spain

This was the best ever performance notched up by an Indian in the men's singles at the World Championships. Earlier Prakash Padukone in 1983, B Sai Praneeth in 2019 and Lakshya Sen in this edition won the bronze medals at the World Championships.

It is the first time that India won two medals in men's singles at the World Championships. India had earlier won two medals in 2019.

Srikanth is a former world no. 1.

The maiden silver also placed Srikanth alongside P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, who had finished runner-up in the past. Sindhu had won the coveted gold in 2019, two silver and two bronze, while Saina claimed the silver at the 2015 Jakarta and a bronze at 2017 Glasgow.

Srikanth is currently ranked 14th in the world.

Loh is the first man from Singapore to win the World Championships title.
