Jammu and Kashmir becomes first UT to be integrated with National Single Window System


J&K Integrated With National Single Window System: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha recently launched the single-window portal for Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) making it the first Union Territory (UT) to be integrated with National Single Window System (NSWS).

Key Highlights:

  • In a historic move by the UT Government to facilitate investments in J&K as many as 130 industrial services have been made online on a single window system.
  • More than 160 services would also be integrated this year.
  • Now global investors can apply for all their business approvals in J&K through the National Single Window system.
  • This marks a major leap in Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in J&K.
  • The UT is being linked in to a big network of partnerships.
  • These partnerships include both domestic and foreign companies.
  • The integration will make Jammu and Kashmir more competitive.

Background:

  • In January 2021, the UT administration had announced a new industrial developmental scheme (IDS) with a total outlay of Rs 28,400 crore to encourage new investment and to take industrial development to the block level.
  • Because of IDS, in 2021 alone, Kashmir received Rs 70,000 crores of investment.

Current Scenario:

  • J&K is right now in a new stage of development.
  • Focused attention is being given to the growth of dynamic sectors, including real estate, horticulture and tourism, so as to create increased employment opportunities.
  • The increase in employment opportunities will reduce their involvement towards terrorist and anti – governmental mishaps.

Nodal Agency:

  • The Department of Industries and Commerce is the current nodal agency in implementing the industrial reforms in the union territory.
  • It will coordinate with all departments of J&K administration for successful compliance of Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) 2022 and Regulatory Compliance Burden (RCB) 2022.

About NSWS:

  • The NSWS is a 2020 budgetary announcement of the Government of India (GoI).
  • It is a digital platform where the investors can identify and apply for approvals.
  • The portal not only provides advisory services but also gives updated information about the approvals.
  • The Know Your Approvals (KYA) module supports information across 32 Central Departments and 14 States.
  • Currently, the portal hosts applications for approvals from 19 Central Departments and 13 State Governments.
  • The Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal had soft launched the portal in September 2021.
