International Olympic Committee Session 2023: India has won the bid to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee's (IOC) session in Mumbai, in an unopposed race on February 19.
Key Highlights:
- Mumbai was officially announced as the host by IOC president Thomas Bach following a voting session at the IOC Session 2022 in Beijing.
- Out of 82 IOC members eligible for voting, 75 members were in favour of Mumbai. Six voted for abstention, while only one vote went against Mumbai.
- The last such session was hosted by India in the year 1983 in New Delhi.
- Nita Ambani is the representative of India on this committee.
IOC Session for 2023:
- The IOC Session for 2023 will be held at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.
- This event will see the election for the 2030 Winter Olympics host country and the sports programme for the Olympic Games scheduled in Los Angeles for the year 2028.
- As India gets to host this session, India will be front-runners to host the 2030 Youth Olympics and can push for the 2036 Summer Olympics.

- The 2023 IOC session will be a crucial moment in the sporting chapter of the country and also 2022-2023 happens to be the 75th year of India's Independence.

- The IOC Session is the yearly meeting of members of the IOC which consists of 101 voting members and 45 honorary members.
- Senior representatives from over 50 international sports federations also attend the meet.
- Senior reps include Presidents and Secretaries-General, while the federations include summer and winter sporting disciplines.
- They come together to decide amendments to the Olympic Charter, the election of IOC members and office-bearers and so on.
