India’s transition to a Green Economy to create 50 million jobs

According to a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF), India’s transition to a net-zero economy could create over 50 million jobs and contribute more than $1 trillion in economic impact by 2030.

The World Economic Forum has released a new report outlining how India’s path to decarbonization will have an estimated economic impact of over $1 trillion by 2030 and around $15 trillion by 2070.

Published in collaboration with Kearney and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), the report underlines that “India’s transition to a net zero economy can save lives, catalyse new industries, create over 50 million jobs and contribute more than $15 trillion in economic impact. It is time for a Green New Deal for India".

As per the report, India’s five commitments are a critical foundation of the global pathway to achieve the ambitious 1.5-degree Celsius global warming target.

The report says that along with India’s four cross-sectoral enablers, there are the five sectoral pillars, i.e., agriculture, energy, mobility, industry, infrastructure and cities that contribute to over 90% of the country’s emissions.
