Govt launches 2nd phase of Grameen Udyami Project to promote skill development and entrepreneurship amongst tribal youth


Grameen Udyami Project Phase II​: The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in partnership with Seva Bharti and Yuva Vikas Society recently launched the 2nd phase of the Grameen Udyami Project.

Key Highlights:

  • The phase-II of the pilot project was launched by the Union Minister of Tribal affairs, Arjun Munda in Ranchi (Jharkhand).
  • It is being implemented by Yuva Vikas Society, through Seva Bharti Kendra in Ranchi.
  • The project seeks to augment skill training in tribal communities for their inclusive and sustainable growth. 
  • Under the initiative, the endeavor is to multiskill India’s youth and impart functional skills to them for enabling livelihoods.
  • The Government’s complete focus is on strengthening the sustainable livelihood of the tribal population and it has sanctioned a budget of Rs. 85,000 crores to empower the status quo of tribal youth population.

First Phase of Grameen Udyami:

  • In the first phase of this training, participants from rural and tribal areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat were included.
  • Under the first phase, in the month of May, 2022 the training of 157 participants in seven groups started in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
  • About 133 participants completed the training successfully on June 27, 2022.

About Grameen Udyami:

  • Grameen Udyami is a unique multiskilling project, funded by NSDC that aims to train 450 tribal students in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.
  • The project is being implemented in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gujarat.
  • This concept was crystallized by Minister of State (MoS), Shri. Rajeev Chandrasekhar and tribal MPs.

Objectives:

  1. Increase in Rural/Local Economy
  2. Enhance employment opportunities
  3. Reduce forced migration due to lack of local opportunities
  4. Conservation of natural resources

The training under the project will be conducted in the following Job roles which are relevant to the local economy.

  1. Electrician & Solar PV Installation Technician
  2. Plumbing & Masonry
  3. 2-Wheeler Repair & Maintenance
  4. IT/ITES with e-Governance
  5. Farm Mechanization

The project is implemented under Sansadiya Parisankul Yojana.

About National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC):

  • The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is a non-profit public limited company established on July 31, 2008, under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956.
  • NSDC was established as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
  • The Government of India (GoI), through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), owns 49% of NSDC, while the private sector owns the remaining 51%.
  • The organisation provides funding to develop scalable and successful initiatives for vocational training.
