Government unveils Jute Mark logo to promote Indian Golden Fiber


Jute Mark India (JMI) Logo: The logo for Jute Mark India (JMI) Logo was recently unveiled by the Union Government.

Key Points:

  • It is an initiative to promote Indian jute products and protect their identity.
  • The logo will act as “certification of authenticity” for jute products.
  • This certification will help in strengthening domestic market and exports of jute products from India.
  • Jute Mark label will be attached with the jute products.
  • It will contain a unique QR code.
  • Customers can get to know about producers by scanning the QR code.

About JMI Scheme:

  • Jute Mark India (JMI) scheme came into effect under an umbrella scheme for the development of the jute sector between FY’2022 and FY’2026.
  • The JMI scheme has been launched for the development & promotion of jute and jute products in Indian market as well as in global market with a total financial outlay of Rs 485.58 crore by the Centre.
  • It will provide collective identification and assurance about the origin and quality for traditional jute and jute products.
  • It will be the hallmark of powerful creative work, which will define quality to the jute product.
  • It will differentiate it from the competition and connect it with the customers.
  • The certification is expected to boost domestic market and exports of jute products from India.

Jute exports from India:

  • The export of jute goods from India stood at Rs 2,740 crore during the year 2020-21.
  • During financial year 2021-22, provisional exports of jute products were Rs 3785.68 crore.

Which is the nodal agency?

  • The National Jute Board is the nodal agency of the Union Ministry of Textiles, responsible for the promotion of jute and jute products in India and abroad.

About National Jute Board:

  • National Jute Board was set up under “National Jute Board Act, 2008”.
  • It is the nodal agency of the Union Ministry of Textiles for promotion of Indian Jute.
  • It is headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal.
  • It is chaired by the Secretary of Union Ministry of Textiles.
  • Its primary objective is to provide better marketing for jute and jute products.
