The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has termed media reports saying large lithium reserves being identified in Rajasthan as "baseless".

Geological Survey of India said that no lithium found in Rajasthan's Nagaur district.

It is to mention that GSI is carrying out exploration for tungsten, lithium and associated rare metals mineralisation in the Degana area in the Nagour district of Rajasthan since 2019-20.

Functions of Geological Survey of India

Geological Survey of India’s main functions relate to creating and updating of national geoscientific information and mineral resource assessment. 

These objectives are achieved through ground surveys, air-borne and marine surveys, mineral prospecting and investigations, multi-disciplinary geoscientific, geo-technical, geo-environmental and natural hazards studies, glaciology, seism tectonic study, and carrying out fundamental research.
