Dibang Multipurpose Project: India’s largest hydropower project

The Indian Government has approved its largest hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh. The project, Dibang Multipurpose Project (MPP),  is located in the mountainous region. 

The project's primary objective is to serve flood control and is based on storage. 

This project will be developed by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation

The estimated completion period for the project is expected to be 9 years. 

Location of the The Dibang Multipurpose Project 

Located near China border, the Dibang Multipurpose Project is located on the Dibang River in the Lower Dibang Valley District . The Dam site is located about 1.5 km upstream of the confluence of Ashu Pani and Dibang rivers.

The project will generate 2,880 MW (12*240 MW) of hydropower. 

The project bordering China has received an approval of estimated investment of Rs1600 crore. The project will be developed by NHPC Limited.
