Danish Fort at Tharangambadi to get a facelift

The 400-year-old Danish Fort in the eastern coastal village of Tharangambadi is set to undergo a facelift worth 3.5 crore. 

Danish Fort, also referred to as Fort Dansborg, was built in 1620 at Tharangambadi, a Danish colony along the Coromandel coast. Tharangambad, also known as Tranquebar, is in present-day southern state of Tamil Nadu . 

Tharangambadi was a trading centre in the 16th century established by the Danish. 

The fort served as a base for Danish settlement in India. The fort was later sold to the British.

Later the fort was developed as a museum showcasing 16th century artefacts.
