CII-EXIM Bank Conclave: The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal recently attended the “Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Exim Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership”.

Key Points about the conclave:

• The conclave was held on July 19, 2022.
• The Conclave showcased how India can play a significant role in the economic development of countries in Africa.
• Also, how India could help in skill development in industries, financial inclusion, employment, creation of infrastructure, and providing connectivity by increasing penetration of telecom networks besides fulfilling the basic needs of people across the African continent.
• During the conclave, Union Commerce and Industry Minister called to strengthen and expand India-Africa ties.

• He said that India could present emerging technologies to expand commerce investment, trade, and opportunities for the youth of Africa.
• He pointed out the immense possibilities between both countries and asked the countries to expand their bilateral relation.
• He highlighted some areas of cooperation, which can help in fulfilling the aspirations of both countries -

• Solar power- to bring clean energy
• Physical and digital infrastructure,
• Energy security and Jobs in Africa
• Defence trade
• Co-creating a start-up ecosystem

India-Africa Cooperation:

• India and Africa have worked closely together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Through the Maitri vaccine initiative, both governments offered assistance to a number of other nations.
• India and Africa are exhibiting signs of recovery, resiliency, and rejuvenation following the pandemic.
• They can assist in directing cost-effective solutions in a number of fields, such as logistics, drinking water, education, healthcare, solar power, and fintech.  

About CII-Exim Bank event:

• The CII-Exim Bank event was launched in the year 2005 with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
• To date, 16 editions have been organized.
• The Conclave has played a pivotal role in encouraging Indian companies to establish and grow their footprints in Africa.
