Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy clinch Asia Championships doubles title

The star Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty become the first Indian Men's Doubles pair to win the Badminton Asia Championships Title

It was India's first gold medal at the continental tournament in 58 years.

Before Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty,  Dinesh Khanna is the only Indian to be crowned champion at the Asia Badminton Championships in 1965.

In that year  Khanna beat Thailand’s Sangob Rattanusorn in the men’s singles final at Lucknow to clinch the gold medal.

India’s previous best performance in men’s doubles at the Asia Championships was a bronze-medal finish by Dipu Ghosh and Raman Ghosh in 1971.

Continued their dream run in 2022 and 2023 the Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty outwit Malaysian combination of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 21-16, 17-21, 19-21 in a nail-biting final to clinch the title in the continental championship.

Satwik and Chirag have won the 2022 Commonwealth Games and five career titles on the BWF World Tour.

Before this final, India had won one gold and 17 bronze medals in different categories at the continental Championships since 1962.
