Ashish Kumar Chauhan: Ashish Kumar Chauhan is all set to become the new chief of the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Key Highlights:

  • The appointment of Ashish Kumar Chauhan as the next Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was recently approved by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
  • He will become the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of NSE.
  • He is currently serving as the CEO and MD of BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and his term is scheduled to end in November 2022.
  • He will be succeeding Vikram Limaye, whose 5-year term ended on July 15.
  • Now, approval from shareholders will be required for Ashish Kumar Chauhan to take charge of NSE.

About Ashish Kumar Chauhan:

  • Ashish Kumar Chauhan is an alumnus of IIT and IIM.
  • He served as a visiting professor at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.
  • He is considered the father of modern financial derivatives in India. He had begun his career as a banker at IDBI in 1991.
  • He worked in the developing derivatives segment at the NSE, during 1993-2000.
  • He is the creator of the Nifty index, a benchmark Indian stock market index that represents a weighted average of 50 of the largest companies listed on the National Stock Exchange.
  • He is credited with reviving the BSE, making it the fastest stock exchange company in the world.
