Unmesh: A three-day international literary festival called “Unmesh” was held on June 16, 2022, at Gaiety Theatre in Shimla.

Key Highlights:

  • It was officially started, by the Union Minister of State for Culture, Arjun Ram Mehjawal.
  • Unmesh Festival was attended by approximately 425 poets, writers, translators, critics, and notable figures from 15 nations, representing over 60 languages.
  • Over 1,000 books relevant to the civil rights movement were on display during this three-day festival.
  • Geetanjali Shree, the Booker Prize-winning author, spoke about women’s writing in Indian languages.

About Unmesh festival:

  • The unmesh festival was organized by the Union Ministry of Culture and Sahitya Akademi, in association with the Department of Art and Culture of the Himachal Pradesh government.
  • It is being organized as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • According to Meghwal, this event is being held for the first time, and similar functions will be performed in different parts of the country.
  • Unmesh, a celebration of expression, is the country’s largest international literary festival to date.
