54th IFFI off to a colourful start in Goa

The 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is being held at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Goa from November 20 to 28 and will showcase over 270 films.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced an increase in the incentive for foreign film production in India from 30% to 40% of the expenditure incurred, with a raised limit from Rs 2.5 Crore to Rs 30 Crore, exceeding 3.5 million US Dollars, and an additional 5% percent bonus for Significant Indian Content (SIC). 

For the first time and from here on, IFFI will bestow an award titled, “Best Web Series (OTT) Award”

IFFI is one of the biggest film and cultural extravaganza of the world.

India's media and entertainment industry   is growing every year with an average annual growth of 20 per cent in the last three years.

The opening film screened at the 54th International Film Festival of India festival was the UK Thriller, 'Catching Dust'.

The 2023 American biographical sports drama 'The Featherweight' will be the last film at the event. 

Over 270 films will be showcased during the festival at four venues.

Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award

Renowned Hollywood actor and producer and shining star of World Cinema Michael Douglas will be conferred with prestigious Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award at the festival. 

The award will be conferred on him during the Closing Ceremony. With over 50 years in the film and television industry, Michael Douglas has received 2 Oscars, 5 Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and countless other honours.

This year IFFI received a record number of 2926 entries from 105 countries, which is three times more international submissions than last year.

The Indian Panorama section will showcase 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films. The opening film in the feature section is Malayalam film “Aattam”, and in the non-feature section, is “Andro Dreams” from Manipur,
