'500 raids in 3 months…': Arvind Kejriwal amid fresh ED liquor policy searches

The excise policy case has been at the heart of BJP-AAP stand-off.

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday was reported to have launched a massive operation in the Delhi excise policy case. Raids were reported at dozens of locations in the national capital, and Punjab among other places, as per news agency ANI.

In a tweet, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that over 500 raids have been carried out in three months, "yet nothing has been found". “500 raids… more than 300 officials have been working 24*7 for three months. They all are trying to find proof against one Manish Sisodia,” he tweeted in Hindi, referring to his deputy. “Nothing has been found, because there is no proof... because nothing was done," he stressed.

“Due to dirty politics, such officers are losing their precious time. How will the country progress like this?" Kejriwal further wrote in an apparent attack on the BJP. He has made similar comments in the past as the probe deepened in the liquor policy case after a CBI investigation was recommended by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in July.

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia is among one of the accused in the case. The investigation has also led to a massive BJP-AAP stand-off as the rival party accuses Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of corruption.

Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and other AAP leaders, however, have dismissed these allegations. In a counter-attack, they have alleged that central probe agencies are being misused by the BJP - a claim that other opposition parties have also made in the recent past.

Since July, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor has recommended or cleared probe in other cases too, which are linked to the Delhi government. Earlier this week, he ordered a probe into the government’s alleged failure in implementing a Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) order, which directed direct benefit transfer of electricity subsidy to consumers.
